FRESH HORIZONS EVENT MARKS SUCCESSFUL 2010 KICK-OFF FOR BLACK CAMPAIGN FOR AGRICULTURE COMMISSSIONER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tuesday, February 2, 2010

ATLANTA, Georgia—February 2, 2010—Gary Black’s 2010 campaign to win the race for Georgia Agriculture Commissioner got a tremendous start with the Fresh Horizons event held Monday, February 1 at the 755 Club at Turner Field. Over 300 guests attended the reception and dinner which raised in excess of $200,000 for the campaign. The evening was hosted by State Senator John Bulloch (Chairman of the Senate Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee), State Representative Tom McCall (Chairman of the House Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee), and 75 other members of the Host Committee.

Black said: “I am pleased and humbled by the tremendous outpour of support for our campaign. To have the involvement of so many outstanding leaders from the Republican Party and agriculture communities, as well as so many other citizens concerned with restoring trust to the Agriculture Department, gets us off to a great start in 2010.”

He continued: “We are gratified to have such a warm response to our program to assure safe food, strong farms, and responsible government. It is clear to me the plan we outlined for the first 90 days in office is one that is truly responsive to what Georgians expect from the Agriculture Department.”

Senator Bulloch said: “Agriculture is the number one industry in the state of Georgia. Gary Black has proven he understands what it will take to assure that in the 21st century, agriculture remains an integral part of a growing economy in our state. Gary Black knows agriculture and those of us involved in agriculture know Gary Black. He has earned our trust and our support. He surely has mine.”

Black concluded: “It is true the scope of the Agriculture Department extends itself far beyond our farms and ranches. The Department is responsible for assuring a gallon of gas is a gallon gas, that the food on the shelves of our grocery stores is safe, that pet shelters operate responsibly, and much, much more. Still yet, the first responsibility of the Department is to make certain our farmers get the support they deserve. That will always be job one for me. “

About Gary Black:
Black currently is the President of the Georgia Agribusiness Council, where he has served for 20 years. The Agribusiness Council is a chamber-like organization for farmers and agricultural business owners. In addition, Black was the Republican candidate for Agriculture Commissioner in 2006. He operates a farm in the Commerce area, where he resides with his wife, Lydia. They have two children, Caroline and Ward, who are undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Georgia, respectively.
